October 2010: Training on « Methods of non-violent conflict management and peace strategies » for Civil Society Organizations in Burundi
Guenter Schoenegg accompanies six (6) civil society organizations in Burundi, partner
organizations of EIRENE. With nearly 9 million inhabitants living
on a territory of 27.834 km², Burundi is the second densely
populated country in Africa. After the civil war from 1993 to 2002,
around 650.000 refugees (most of them in Tanzania) have been
repatriated to their home villages in Burundi. Very often, the find
their land occupied by other users. The government has not yet
developed a land tenure policy which responds on that challenge.

The six organizations supported by EIRENE et PRG intervene on local conflicts in the southern provinces Makamba, Rutana and Bururi. From June to October 2010 they were trained for that work at a series of training sessions on non-violent conflict management and peace strategies. They deepened their skills in mediation and negotiation techniques and they developed monitoring instruments to assure the their peace work creates positive results.
