November 2010 : Living with the oil – Study on the living conditions of communities in the oil producing region of Chad
The study of the living conditions in three villages conducted by Djeralar Miankeol accompanied by Martin Petry shows the dramatic impact of the oil project on the living conditions of the communities: destruction of environmental resources, disturbance of production systems and of traditional values (loss of fallow, pastures, water resources, and holy sites), increase of sicknesses, decline in moral standards, insecurity. The communities living within this industrial complex (oil wells, collecting centers, pipe- and flow lines, power stations and lines, giant machinery, etc.) are suffocated and have difficulties to survive. The study tries to show these phenomenons to a larger public.
